Steps to a single digit handicap

Steps to a single digit handicap

Single-digit handicap… elusive unicorn of the golfing world!

Let’s say you're currently at 14, and the idea of breaking into single digits is keeping you awake at night.

Realistically, how much do you need to practice… and what do you have to give up - to get there?

1. How much practice?

Aiming for single digits isn’t a ‘hit the range on Fridays’ kind of gig. To make a real dent, you’ll need to put in dedicated time - at least 3-5 practice sessions a week.

But they don’t have to be marathon sessions. Thirty minutes to an hour of targeted practice can work wonders if you’re focused.

A practice net at home can be a game-changer. Those 30-60 min sessions are achievable when you can practice anytime in your garage or backyard.

2. Focus on specific areas

Regular practice means you can dedicate time to specific areas like swing mechanics and short game.

The more confident you are with your swing, the better you’ll perform during rounds, and your short game is where you'll save the most strokes.

3. What to give up?

You might need to say goodbye to some couch time bingeing your fave series. A few less happy hours after work could also help your game.

You could consider cutting back the next driver or fairway wood you ‘absolutely need.’ Instead, invest in lessons with a pro who can analyse your swing.
